Latest Newsletter
3rd Sept 2010
Dear Parents,

Welcome back to the start of a new school year. I am pleased to be able to take this opportunity to offer a warm welcome to our school community and to the new parents, whose children join our school this term.

We start the new term with no changes to classrooms or class teachers. We welcome Mrs Douce as a Graduate Teacher; she will be training in Class 4 under the direction of Mrs Forsyth. Mrs J Carvell will taking over Mrs Douce's TA role in the school.

There is one new name on the staff; Miss Marsh got married over the holidays and is now Mrs Wootton

As is my habit I like to use the start of a new year to look back and celebrate the success and achievements of the pupils from the previous year.

At the end of last term we held our second awards ceremony to recognise and celebrate the children's achievements across all of school life.  We added a new award for handwriting this year and as last year the morning was a great success; both the children and staff enjoyed sharing the children's success with you.

As a school we are very proud of our children's achievement in both Year 2 and Year 6 end of year assessments. My thanks to the staff for their hard work in helping the children to achieve these high standards. (See attached school results).

My thanks to Mrs Jones and Mrs Williams for again organising a super Sports Day. The weather did not defeat us. Congratulations to Yellow Windermere House who won on the day.

We had a busy Summer term full of activities. The year 4 residential this year was at Conway the children enjoyed the visit and were a credit to the school. Mr Horgan our Chair of Governors joined the trip and enjoyed the visit as much if not more than the children. The Year 6 residential went ahead as usual, and as with Year 4 children the children were a credit to the school. My thanks to the staff and our Chair of Governors for making these visits possible.

Our Year 6 production was fantastic. My thanks go to Mr Shaw who wrote and directed the production. The children in both Years 5 and 6 put on an outstanding performance and entertained us with music from the last 100 years.

During the last week of term a reporter and photographer  from Local Life Magazine visited the school. The school has been featured in the September issue. The school has some copies in school for  sale or please look out for them in Congleton town.

I will end this section of the newsletter as I always do with my thanks to you as parents for your support last year in all the school endeavoured to undertake. The staff and I appreciate your support; by working together we can ensure your children will achieve their best. Included in this letter is an over view of how the funding you help us raise is used in school.
As the new school year starts the staff and I look forward to working with you as part of our school community for the benefit of your children.

ASSESSMENT and TARGET SYSTEM
Your child's Autumn targets will be sent out at the beginning of the term. Please sign and return these to school. If you have any questions relating to your child's targets or their progress please make an appointment to see your child's teacher to discuss the issues.

Assessing for learning is key process the education of children. Staff will continue to assess your child during the year using their work and informal testing. Assessment remains part of the school's continued development.
HEALTH AND SAFETY

As we do every year the following section is a reminder relating to procedures for giving medicine.

·Always send in authorisation signed by yourself if your child requires medication with the stated dosage clearly written.
·If your child requires to receive medication 3 times a day this can be fitted in at home morning, tea time and evening, rather than being given during the day.
·If your child requires to be given child paracetamol during the day please consider if they are well enough to be in school.

From the start of term staff will be wearing identifications badges.

The school also ask for your support at the start of the school in relation to leaving pupils from Year 3 upwards on the school playground at the beginning of the school day. To encourage independence and in the interest of pupil safety we are asking that pupils are left on the playground at 8:45am. Staff will be present from that time.

A reminder that as a health and safety precaution the play equipment is not to be used before or after school as it is not supervised by staff at that time of day.

FRIENDS OF QUINTA

The FOQ organised a super Summer Fair. The funds raised purchases additional equipment that the pupils may request and the support they give to the school is most valuable. However, events cannot be undertaken without parental support and a core group to organise the events. As the new school year starts FOQ are on the look out for help. If you can help please fill in the form attached and give it to your child's class teacher
