Topics and Core subjects:
This is the basic structure of staffing during the week. We will of course endeavour to ensure that disruptions to this timetable are kept to a minimum but there will be some unavoidable alterations when staff are on courses or absent.
Dear Parents,

Welcome back to a new year at school, I hope you had a relaxing and healthy Christmas holiday and are now looking forward to the exciting new term as much as I am.  This newsletter will provide you with a clear picture of the areas your child will be covering over the coming months and help you to support their learning at home.

Please encourage your child to read with you three times a week and record this in their reading record. The children will have the opportunity to change their books as they arrive in the morning and during guided reading. Literacy and Numeracy homework will be given within sets. Your child’s set teacher will inform the children when work needs to be handed in. Late work is marked with an L and incomplete homework is completed during break time. Please note we will be attempting to make better use of our homework planners as a means of home school communication. We will be taking planners in on a Friday to sign.

Please could you ensure that your child lines up on the main playground at the beginning of the school day where the teacher on duty will send them around to the classroom. This is for the safety of your child. If you would like to talk to me please call into the classroom at the end of the school day alternatively make an appointment.

I will display important information and letters in classroom window. There is also a lost property box in our cloakroom- (Please name jumpers, coats etc !)

Thank you for your time and a Happy New Year.

Mr Jackson

During this half term we will be exploring adventure stories, poetry, stories with issues and dilemmas and information texts . Your child will have opportunities to explore these genres through both ICT, reading various texts and written activities. Lower Keystage 2 will be  focusing on reading comprehension and improving writing by using VCOP exercises.
We will begin this year by focusing on counting, partitioning and calculating; followed by looking at data collection, Venn diagrams etc. The children will have the opportunities to explore these areas; practically, through the use of laptops and games and using formal written methods. They will have maths homework each week which will be taken from a page in their new text books. Some groups will also have weekly tables tests.
This is the timetable for homework. The length and complexity of the homework tasks will depend upon the needs of your child and the expectations that we have for them. Therefore, there will be differences in the homework that is given for the Literacy and Numeracy sets.
